You can refine your searches on Letterboxd using special search triggers. The table below outlines several text triggers that can be included in your search (separately, or in combination with other triggers or search terms) to produce more specific results:
•film (alias: f)
Examples: film:interstellar, film:4VZ8, f:interstellar, f:4VZ8

•cast (alias: c:) – search by cast/crew member (any role)
Examples: cast:margot-robbie, c:margot-robbie, cast:3ZwF, c:3ZwF (you can also use specific role triggers like actor:margot-robbie or actor:3ZwF in place of cast:)
Returns: Films — include multiple cast members to return films they have in common.
•crew (alias: c:) – search by crew member (or use specific roles like director (alias d), producer, writer, etc.)

•imdb (no alias)

Returns: Films — finds a film by its IMDb ID.
Note: The c: trigger returns results for any cast or crew role on a film. For example, c:greta-gerwig will return more results than actor:greta-gerwig or director:greta-gerwig, since Greta has worked in multiple capacities. Crew role triggers (like director, producer, writer, etc.) follow the same format as the crew member’s role in our website URLs.
Tips and tricks: You may combine multiple search terms to find specific results. For example:
- Include multiple films to find cast/crew common to those films, or to find lists containing all the mentioned films.
- Include multiple cast or crew members to find films they worked on in common.
- Include multiple favorites to find members with that combination in their profile favorites.
- Include a member and a film to find that member’s review of the film (or their lists containing the film).
- Include a member, a tag, and a year range to find a member’s tagged content published within the given period.
- Exclude results from a specific trigger by prefixing that trigger with a minus sign. For example, actor:greta-gerwig -director:greta-gerwig returns films in which Greta acted but didn’t direct.
- Combine triggers using a logical OR to broaden results. For example, actor:greta-gerwig (director:greta-gerwig OR writer:greta-gerwig) returns films in which Greta acted as well as either wrote or directed.
- To search for nested tags by their base tag, search for the base followed by a colon. For example, searching tag:with will return all reviews or lists tagged with:with:[someone]. (Such a tag search is best paired with m:[username] to limit results to a single member.)
